We are remembering the wonderful photojournalist Jack Kurtz, who died of cancer Oct. 19 at age 64 in Iowa. He was an incredible photographer who worked around the world, and a devoted husband to Cathy. A generous man, he served as a judge in YJI's contest for years. He riveted our students with a great photography workshop. He leaves a fantastic legacy of a lifetime of making impactful images. Jack started as a high school journalist in Kenya. RIP, dear friend. Our friend Jack Kurtz, an incredible photojournalist and even better human being, died this morning, his loving wife Cathy Kurtz at his side. Jack cared deeply about young people and the future of journalism. He served as a judge in YJI's annual contest for years and gave a riveting workshop on photography for our students.
