DUNSTABLE, Bedfordshire, England The
Olympic Torch is making its last rounds across the United Kingdom and Monday
completed its last day in the East of England, traveling through Luton,
Dunstable and Milton Keynes.

Hundreds
of people turned out in the small town of Dunstable, about 30 miles north of
London, to cheer on the torchbearers whose inspirational stories have resulted
in their unique opportunity to carry the Olympic flame.

The
Olympic Games, in London this summer, run July 27 to August 12.

The
torch’s route was a mixture of glamour and history with Formula One star Lewis
Hamilton starting the day’s relay and the route concluding at Bletchley Park,
the home of the famous World War II code-breakers.

A Torchbearer approaches with the Olympic flame

Monday in Dunstable

A
convoy made up of police, sponsor trucks and coaches carrying the Torchbearers
made its way through Dunstable between 7 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. with loud music playing
to encourage all those who made the effort to come out early on a Monday
morning.

It
made its way through into town and through the high street, even being carried
by a disabled torchbearer in a wheelchair before being transported to Milton
Keynes.

The Torchbearer passes with the Olympic flame as

town residents of Dunstable show their support.

Altogether,
the dreary town of Dunstable became alive for a short time yesterday with
people – regardless of their personal feelings about the Olympic Games – coming
out to cheer on its torchbearers.
